Pacific Palisades is basically the antithesis of the neighborhood portrayed in the popular new television show of the same name. Rather than being the stomping grouds of a displaced community of sultry Generation X teens, it is a quiet family oriented bedroom community which features wonderful homes and breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean. The vast majority of its population is couples with children.
Pacific Palisades earns its name: palisades, or high bluffs run about three miles along the Pacific shore then level off into small mesas. In the mesa neighborhoods, the housing mixes the old, the fairly old, and occasonally the new.
Moving east on Sunset Boulevard, you pick up Palisades Drive, which gradually and then abruptly rises into the hills. This section is called Pacific Highlands, and consists of condos, executive homes and mansions.
Pacific Palisades is a town of the City of Los Angeles, but residents, through city groups, exercise much local control.
