Beverly Hills mixes the posh with the plain below Sunset Boulevard but above Sunset, in the foothills of the Santa Monica Mountains, the homes range from the way upscale to the knockout. Bel Air Estates and Beverly Glen are also located north of Sunset Boulevard in the foothills. The homes, many hidden behind hedges, tend to be mansions or executive homes.
As Benedict Canyon and Beverly Glen move toward Mulholland, middle class homes of three and four bedrooms, showing much care, appear. Sometimes the modest and the rich live within shouting distance. Many of the homes are built on mesas or shelves carved into the hills or in ravines thick with brush and trees.
Bel Air Estates and Beverly Glen are neighborhoods of the City of Los Angeles, governed by the L.A. City Council though local groups exert great influence.
